Let our local history experts guide you through the extraordinary history of Sheffield Manor Lodge. The story includes Cardinal Wolsey’s final days, Mary Queen of Scots’ 14 years of captivity and the relationship of Bess of Hardwick and George Talbot.
Visit the Turret House, the only roofed building still standing in England Mary would have known, and see the original plaster ceiling she possibly helped design. Meet Bess of Hardwick and hear how she came to live in Sheffield and became the captor of the infamous Scottish Queen.
The tour will also include an exploration of the grounds including the garderobe, the apothecary’s garden and lavender labyrinth.
A spot of lunch
The Rhubarb Shed can provide a buffet lunch (subject to availability) in the Discovery Centre looking out over the Tudor grounds. Alternatively book space in the cafe itself (Wednesday to Sunday), located just down the hill on our Manor Oaks site, for a wider selection of full lunches.
