Sheffield Manor Lodge is a unique heritage attraction with Tudor Turret House and grounds. There’s so much to do but our opening times do vary so please check opening times before visiting.
Opening Times
Discover…. Tudor history brought to life (there’s a sandpit and games too!)
Please note the Discovery Centre is closed for the season.

Once a fine Tudor Manor, the Turret House and grounds at Sheffield Manor Lodge are now a great place for families and those with an interest in heritage to explore. The house was the home of George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury and his wife Bess of Hardwick. Mary, Queen of Scots was held as a prisoner here in the 1570s and 1580s.

Explore the walls, take a tour and meet costumed characters. There are also our giant sandpit, lavender labyrinth, crafts and outdoor wooden games – the perfect place for families and children to play. Just make sure you don’t get stuck in the stocks at closing time.
Engage…. with our animals
We have built an exciting new home for our animals on Mr Barnes’ Farm. Meet our donkeys, goats, rabbits and guinea pigs with handling sessions throughout the day. Don’t forget to play on our toy tractors and in the straw pit while you’re here.

Our opening times can vary so please check our opening times to find out when you can visit them. You can still adopt our animals to receive a passport, badge, animal walk and invites to special meet the animals adopters days.
Enjoy…. quality time together in the 1940’s cottage
Please note the cottages are now closed for the season.

Mr and Mrs Barnes open up their new home for you to have a go at washing without electricity, putting out an incendiary bomb and peg doll crafting. You can also meet the ARP warden who will explain exactly what to do if there is an air raid. Sound the siren, grab your gas mask and head to the Anderson shelter. Please check our opening times before you visit.
Explore… wild flower meadows, nature and stunning views
Wander through meadows and gardens to explore a unique landscape rich in seasonal colour. Our Pictorial Meadows team are specialists in creating beautiful displays of naturalistic planting. Amongst the grounds, indulge in the scents of the apothecary’s garden and try not to get lost in the lavender labyrinth.
Indulge… in bistro style meals, cakes, coffee and other tasty treats
