The Tudors and Mary Queen of Scots
Let our local history experts and costume characters introduce you to the extraordinary history of Sheffield Manor Lodge. The story includes Cardinal Wolsey’s final days, Mary Queen of Scots’ 14 years of captivity and the stories of Bess of Hardwick and George Talbot.
Visit the Turret House, the only roofed building still standing in England Mary would have known, and see the original plaster ceiling she possibly designed. Meet Bess of Hardwick and hear how she came to live in Sheffield and be the captor of the infamous Scottish Queen.
The tour will also include an exploration of the grounds including the garderobe, the apothecary’s garden and lavender labyrinth. In the Discovery Centre you can view finds discovered on on site from throughout its history.
A spot of lunch
The Rhubarb Shed can provide a buffet lunch (subject to availability) in the Discovery Centre looking out over the Tudor grounds. Alternatively book space in the cafe itself (Wednesday to Sunday), located just down the hill on our Manor Oaks site, for a wider selection of full lunches.
