Mary Queen of Scots History Tour
Take our Mary Queen of Scots History Tour and discover Mary’s 14 years of captivity in Sheffield and the surrounding area. The tour includes an expert history talk, tour of the Manor Lodge and audiences with Bess of Hardwick and the Queen of Scots herself.
The talk starts with Mary’s birth but focuses on the often over looked time once she crossed the border from Scotland and before the Babington plot unfolded. She came believing Queen Elizabeth I would help her regain the Scottish crown but instead she faced many years of imprisonment at the mercy of her cousin. She was moved from prison to prison and jailor to jailor, though always treated in the manor of a Queen, even bathing in French white wine.
So come along to Sheffield Manor Lodge and learn all about Mary’s captivity.
Tours are generally conducted by local historian David Templeman*, author of the book Mary Queen of Scots The Captive Queen in England, 1568-1587.
